LEARN TO SEW VOL. 1: TOTE BAG MAY 15/22 6PM-9PM

*This workshop takes place over two sessions on May 15/May 22. Please ensure you can attend both dates before booking.

If you've never used a sewing machine before or need a refresher, this is the perfect workshop for you. In this workshop, you'll be working with a simple pattern to make a quilted tote bag with lining and handles. We'll show you the basics on threading a machine and the proper set up. You'll get to learn how to use a sewing pattern, practice cutting double layers of fabric, proper pinning, maintaining your seam allowance and backstitching, and how to iron seams and fabric for sewing.

We'll provide all of the materials and equipment for you in this workshop. You'll get to choose from a selection of fabric options for your tote bag.

Prerequisite: None! This is a beginner workshop (but if you've taken our SIP & SEW SCRUNCHIES workshop before, it'll definitely help!)

THE WORKSHOP

• This workshop introduces you to the anatomy of a sewing machine where we'll show you the basics of bobbin winding, threading, and sewing seams
• You'll get to choose from a base selection of materials for your tote bag (black cotton, and a selection of colour solids)
• We'll show you how to cut fabric, use a sewing pattern, pin for sewing, iron seams, and provide more tips to build a solid foundation for future projects

This event is only open to adults 18+. Guests will have the option of using their 20% discount at the shop on the day of the workshop, or have a one-time discount code emailed to them for future use in-person or online.

THE SPACE
This workshop takes place at our studio located at 276 Carlaw Avenue, Unit 217C where Freon Collective products are made. Our work table is standing or sitting height (with tall stools). We have four sewing machines for workshops with seating (2 per table).

CANCELLATION POLICY
Please notify us within 24 hours of the workshop if you need to cancel. All workshops are non-refundable, but we can provide you with credit for a future workshop or credit to shop online/in person. If you cancel within less than 24 hours or don't show up, you forfeit the cost of the workshop.

This workshop will only run with a minimum of 2 guests. In the event that we cancel a workshop, you will be notified within 24 hours and you will be offered a full refund or an alternative date to attend. 

FAQs
Can I bring my own machine?
In most cases, yes! Many guests want to learn how to use their own machine, so we would be happy to accomodate. Please email us to confirm prior to the workshop.

What if I already know how to sew?
You are definitely welcome to join! We'll still go through all of the sewing machine basics, but you might finish your tote bag earlier than the rest of the guests.
